Day 15 Barham Rest and repair day

1524 kilometres from the mouth – same as yesterday

Made this attachment for the wheels so it doesn’t dint the beautiful machine.

Going to look a bit weird on the back but function over looks will have to be the case this time.
Washing done,  resupplied and everything is dry.
Barham is a nice place.  Somewhere I would like to come back to. Excellent caravan park.
Going to be an interesting day tomorrow.  I have planned for a daylight start.

  1. Hi Peter,

Rob just gave me your blog address today. Looks like you are doing very well. A couple of questions:

    – are you having any trouble with blisters on your hands (I know I would)? What kind of gloves are you wearing?

    – are you getting stiff and cramped in your legs / lower body, and are you doing any stretches or other exercises?

    – when you drink the river water, are you just boiling it or using some kind of treatment as well? I am surprised it is clear enough to drink even if you are treating it.

Hope it all continues to go smoothly for you, and looking forward to catching up when you return.

    1. Hi Henry good to hear from you,
Blisters: l got a few at the beginning and they have healed but never hurt when I was paddling. I got them from the gloves which were ones with the fingers cut out. The blisters appeared at the end of the glove fingers. I got gloves for the sun and not for blisters because I always expected to get blisters.
Stiff legs: legs are very interesting. No cramps, just tiredness. I can hold them on the rudder pedals for about an hour then I have to rest them for a while. I either stretch right out effectively lie almost right down or I rest them up sort of in a relaxed squat. I would like to go barefoot but can’t because I had the start of pressure sores on my heals. Water shoes have fixed that. I haven’t been doing stretches but must do. I need a start off check list. Getting better but a number of times I have got the skirt on and forgotten something is mildly frustrating. When I realise it’s stretching I just proceed.
Water: I boil the river water if I need to. Only had to do that twice.

  2. Just started following this Pete. I was supposed to be in those parts this weekend but heading off elsewhere. Will keep following this blog though, awesome adventure. Definitely a trip on my bucket list.

Just an FYI – camping spots may become a bit harder to find for a day or 2 as through to SH properties begin to back onto the river, especially around Pental Island. Good luck though
