Day 49 Wellington

80 kilometres from the mouth.

Nearly there,  just gotta keep telling my self it’s not done yet.
Good northerlies this morning but they died later in the day.
Long relatively straight reaches.  Rained a little and more predicted for tonight.

This bank is at the back of the Wellington pub.  Across the road from the pub is the caravan park.  I have no video of me getting the magnificent machine up this bank but I’m sure you can imagine.  It’s not the paddling or the snags or the dangerous cuttings that did me in but this bank came close.

Not sure how tomorrow is going to pan out but I think I will go for the first camping spot with is Pomanda Point and review the situation.  Been in contact with Aaron and Macca and we may all go across together. Tomorrow afternoon and Wednesday will be good weather wise for the broader area.  Tomorrow morning has good northerlies for the channel to the first point

  1. That’s one steep hill, surprised someone didn’t offer to help. Maybe they thought it might spoil your fun. It would be good having company going across, clearly you can’t get across in one hit, how far is tomorrow nights campsite?

Francis and I went up to Tahbilk today and paddled up past the bridge after mitchellton. Would have been about 15 leisurely Kms. Magnificent day, too good, I was wanting to try out some changes to my sail, there was NO WIND, ABSOLUTELY DEAD CALM. Couldn’t believe it, there is always some wind, but not today. Finished up on the deck at Tahbilk cafe with a coffee, a great day. Spoke to Toni and sorted out next Monday, so that is all cool, not sure what you had planned when you got back, but was hoping to have time to catch up with both of you. I will ring in the next day or so.

  2. Almost there Peter. Wow.
Judy, Henry, Fran and I paddled up the west side of Raymond Island today, The first two hours into an increasing headwind was ok but the planned return down the eastern side of the island would have been messy so we returned the way we came.
Then had a look over the place Ollie and Em have chosen for their reception.

  3. Hi all,
Peter has asked me to let you know that his “spot on” nitificTion stem is out of order so he won’t be able to send from now on. Pretty rough crossing of the lake and gear got wet.
    cheers
