424 kilometres from the mouth
Quite an event full day and am lucky to have got this far.
Packed up and left the camp after meeting the neighbours with two dogs camped along the way. They had the happiest 3 legged dog ever.
Paddled past their camp and waved to their friends as I went past. Paddled for and hour and a half and got to the 444k sign. Thought I would take a picture. No phone. Went over to a bank and looked in the gear I packed, no phone. After a few minutes resigned my self to a days loss and a 10k paddle extra back to last night’s camp.
Less than a kilometre a boat pulls up and asked me how I am. A little depressed I say I’m hoping my phone is still on the bank back there. It isn’t they say. Here it is. One of the guys had gone for a walk, found it on the bank and came after me. The kindness of strangers. Amazing. After a chat and many thank you’s I went back to 444. I asked them to leave a contact on here so I hope they do.
Stopped for lunch at Kingston on Murray and had a great conversation with a local person about bank erosion.
Got through lock 3 about 3:30 and arrived here an hour or so later. Banks are packed with campers but I’m lucky to not need vehicle access.
The Spot battery caved in today. 1st set, not bad going, 38 days.

Great story, there are some great people around. At least with Easter you have plenty of company, don’t forget the red moon tonight.

Still getting over it. They saved me a 20 kilometre paddle plus they came 10k down river to find me.

Every now and then people really surprise you with their acts of kindness. What a relief it must have been to get the phone back without having to paddle back.

Hi there, got home from our Easter camp and looked up your blog…very interesting reading. it was my husband Peter driving the boat along with myself, Grant (phone finder) and Shannon who is Jims daughter and of course our little dog Charli. We are so glad that Grant found your phone and we were able to return it to you..we could only imagine the sick feeling you would have felt when you discovered it lost. We all like to camp at that spot as often as possible as we all really love the river and the lifestyle it brings us. Again all the best for the rest of your journey. Peter and Kathy Schramm.

Thank you. It was a pretty bad feeling, that’s for sure, but the feeling when I saw it in Grants hand made up for it. When I saw your boat coming I recognised Charli. He came up to my camp with Jim and Lou. The river is pretty special. 6 weeks and I have not tired of it. Thanks for your kindness.

Hi. I was the guy who returned your phone. Peter kindly offering to use his boat to find you had saved the day and without you having the long paddle back upstream to look for it. It was close to the waters edge so you were quite lucky it hadn’t gone in. You did look rather relived when it was returned it to you. Will also follow the rest of your journey. All the best.

Thanks Grant. I think I took it off to adjust something and left it there. I was lucky in more ways than one. Especially lucky to come across you guys. Hope you had a great Easter camp.
